If you receive your power services through Xcel Energy, paying your bill automatically with a credit card makes a lot of sense. Once you set up automatic monthly payments, you no longer need to worry about late charges or missed payments. Those automatic payments are also good for your credit score, since you avoid the risk that a late payment notice will end up on your credit report.
Find a copy of your most recent Xcel Energy bill. You will need the information on your bill to set up your online account and establish automatic bill payment.
Log onto the Xcel Energy website at http://www.xcelenergy.com. Click the "Pay My Bill" link on the left side of the home page.
Choose your state from the drop-down box in the top left-hand corner of the page. Look for the "Auto Pay" option and click "Apply Online."
Choose your state from the drop-down box and click "Go." Enter all of the information requested on the application, including your credit card number and expiration date.
Check your credit card statement a few days after the closing of your next Xcel Energy bill to make sure the card has been charged appropriately. Contact Xcel Energy if there are any problems.
