Arbil is a city in northern Iraq close to the borders of Turkey and Iran. The city is also known as Irbil or Erbil, depending on how the name has been translated. The city stands out because in its center is the Citadel of Erbil---a fortress on a hill that has been continuously inhabited for several millennia. It is unknown exactly how old the ancient town is, but some sources believe it has been in existence for at least 7,000 years.
