The Cabanas Mesa del Oso is high in the Sierra Madre Oriental range. You can only reach the Cabanas by truck, but transportation is available from Monterrey to the lodging for a fee. This complex has nine cabins, which can accommodate two to 12 people. All feature fireplaces, along with gas heaters. On the grounds are a playground, petting zoo and horse stables. Popular activities include hiking, bird watching and rappelling down the cliffs. If you want to participate in rappelling, you need to reserve a spot two weeks in advance and pay an extra fee. Because of the remoteness of these cabins and the lack of a restaurant on the premises, guests need to bring their own food and drinks. For those riding in the hotel's vehicles from Monterrey, a grocery store stop is part of the ride.
