Resorts in Virginia With an Indoor Water Park

Winter in Virginia can be brutal, when snow, sleet, ice and cold temperatures make residents and visitors wish for warm water and tropical temperatures. However, Virginia boasts two resorts offering the comfort and fun of a day at the beach in any weather. In addition, summertime is even more fun at one of Virginia's premier outdoor water parks.
  1. Massanutten Resort

    • Massanutten Resort is located in the mountains of northwestern Virginia. Known for its magnificent skiing, snowboarding and snow-tubing trails, Massanutten also boasts a large indoor/outdoor water park. Features of the water park include the first Flow Rider in Virginia, named the Pipeline, that allows visitors to surf indoors. The younger set are sure to enjoy the frog pond, while the more adventurous can head over to the Blue Ridge Rapids or Massanutten Meltdown, which includes a giant tipping bucket, waterfalls and water cannons. A number of tube and body slides are available for those looking for an adrenaline rush. Alternatively, Shenandoah Cove is a pool with three feet of water that is fun for the whole family, and Shenandoah Hot Springs is a huge indoor/outdoor hot tub for ultimate relaxation, no matter the weather. An arcade and several dining options round out the water park experience.

    Great Wolf Lodge

    • The Great Wolf Lodge is located in Williamsburg, Virginia. The resort offers a unique experience as parents and "cubs" spend the night in sleep-in suites designed as wolf dens. Daily story times and interactive presentations make the Great Wolf Lodge a delight for children. Of course, the main attraction at Great Wolf is the water park, which is open to those staying at the lodge only. Features include Fort Mackenzie, an interactive treehouse with 12 levels of nonstop fun. The water park also boasts suspension bridges and a tipping bucket that pours 1,000 gallons of water on the guests below. For a thrill, try the Howlin' Tornado, a six-story funnel ride, or River Canyon Run, a family rafting ride. For a more relaxing alternative, take a leisurely trip down Crooked Creek or soak in the hot tub.
