Iowa Fishing Resorts

Iowa is home to many lakes and rivers that provide opportunities for crappie, trout, northern pike and bass fishing. Some of these bodies of water include Lake Okoboji and the Turkey River. The fishing season in Iowa lasts year-round, although the months with more moderate temperatures are March through September. Many of Iowa's lakes and rivers are home to waterfront resorts with private boat docks and fishing piers.

    • The Four Seasons Resort, in Arnolds Park in northwest Iowa, is situated on the shores of Lake Okoboji. Fishermen who stay at this resort can take advantage of a private marina with boat docks. Other amenities include a 300-foot private beach, walking trails throughout the resort's property, picnic area with barbecue grills and an on-site restaurant, Dry Dock Lounge, that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lake Okoboji has bass, bluegill and walleye fish, and the resort is open year-round. The 28 guest rooms have kitchenettes, satellite televisions and views of the lake. Two-bedroom apartments are available to rent as well.

    Skip-A-Way Resort

    • The Skip-A-Way Resort, located in east Iowa, rests on the banks of the Turkey River and offers fishing piers on the river and on the resort's 18-acre Quarry Lake. An Iowa fishing license is not required to fish on the lake, but you must have one for river fishing. Other amenities include a private beach on the river, walking trails on the resort's property, miniature golf course, canoe and paddle-boat rentals, laundromat, game room and an on-site restaurant, Quarry Lodge, that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Access to Wi-Fi Internet is available throughout the resort. The RV campsites have hook-ups for water, electricity, sewage and cable television.

    Whispering Breezes Resort

    • The Whispering Breezes Resort, situated in south Iowa, is on the shores of the 11,000-acre Rathbun Lake. All the accommodations are within walking distance to the resort's fishing pier and boat slips. The resort is open for fishing year-round. The resort has six cabins and three RVs available to rent. Each of the guest cabins is secluded from one another and has a kitchen, living room and dining area. The RVs have hook-ups for water and electricity. The resort also has a three-bedroom farm lodge with a kitchen, living room and bathroom. Pets are permitted for an additional fee.

    Lake's End Cabin Resort

    • The Lake's End Cabin Resort in east Iowa offers fishing piers and boat docks on Lake Delhi, and is open year-round for trout and bass fishing. The resort also features trails for walking during the summer and snowmobile riding in the winter months. Other amenities include a private beach on the lake, canoe and paddle-boat rentals, a common area for group gatherings and picnicking areas. The resort has three cabins and a bunkhouse available to rent. The bunkhouse and cabins each have one bedroom, cable television, kitchen area, bathroom and living room. All of the cabins are nonsmoking.
