How to Pick a Pickup Camper

Choosing a pickup camper is something that requires a great deal of thought. If you're a camping enthusiast, chances are good that you already own a pickup and are looking to purchase a pickup camper. The model you select is going to be yours for years to come. There are many features to consider.

Consider the weight advantages of the different types of campers. A hardside camper is going to take up more room but will ultimately give you more space. A pop-up camper will give you a lower truck height, and it's far lighter than a hardside camper.

Think about all the people you usually go camping with. If you're a lone camper or only go with a hunting buddy, a smaller camper is probably better for your needs. If you're camping with a family of four, a hardside camper is probably better for your family. It has sides that slide out so that you can add more space for sleeping, and it also has a sleeper that sits over the cab of the truck.

Look back on past camping trips. When do you go camping the most? If it's mostly in the summer, warmer insulation is not something you're going to be very concerned about. If you're a hunter and often find yourself camping in the middle of October, you'll want something that is always going to be set up with thicker insulation.

There are only one of two bathroom setups available. A mid-bath area separates the sleeping quarters from the dinette area. The rear-bath setup means that you're sleeping right next to the kitchen, with no separation from your other camping companions.

Pick a feature that you absolutely insist on having and only look at pickup campers that include that feature. Are you adamant that your dinette table should turn into another bed? Do you need a standing shower separate from the toilet? Should there be a picturesque window at the back of the camper? Find a feature that you feel you can't live without and only look at campers with those options.
