How to Set Up a Camper Awning

Many campers and RVs have awning that extend out from the camper or RV to provide shade on a sunny day. Most RVs have these units installed in the exterior side wall of the RV. Campers, in general, have top mounted units, although exceptions can be found. If set up properly your awning can be used time and time again to provide you with shade even in the sunniest locations.

Instructions

  1. How to Set Up a Camper Awning

    • 1

Release the awning from its attachment point. This is typically a bag or hard case with a zipper or latch.

    • 2

Unravel the awning. Typically the support rods are wound up in the awning so be sure to collect them as you unravel.

    • 3

Unhook the center attachments. The awning is usually stored in a case smaller than its own length, so the awning is folded and hooked at the top of the awning.

    • 4

Unfurl the awning to its full length.

    • 5

Pull the awning tight. Keep tension on this until the side support rods are set up.

    • 6

Put support rods in at the top of the awning if your model has support rods for the top.

    • 7

      Align the side support rods.

    • 8

Fit the side support rods into the side sleeves of the awning. If your model uses hooks, hook them in. Now your awning should not be able to retract.

    • 9

      Align the bottom support rods.

    • 10

Slide the bottom support rods into the bottom sleeves of the awning. If your model uses hooks, hook them in.

    • 11

Take the two long support rods and place them into the holes or hooks at the bottom part of the awning.

    • 12

Stand the awning up on its two supporting legs. Adjust as necessary to the appropriate height.
