RV Parks Near Sleeping Bear Dunes

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is located in northwest Michigan and includes 35 miles of shoreline as well as two islands in Lake Michigan. Climbing the dunes is just one of the activities at a park that is very popular, particularly during the summer months when visitors flock to it for swimming, hiking and camping. The park has its own campgrounds that can accommodate RVs. Private RV parks are also in the immediate area.

    • The D.H. Day Campground in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park is ideal for visitors who enjoy primitive camping. The campground has 88 sites that accommodate RVs. The only amenity at the sites is a fire ring, although water spigots and vault toilets are located around the campground. The north end of the campground provides quick access to a beach on Lake Michigan. A dump station is also located at the front of the campground, which does not have showers. Evening programs conducted by park rangers teach campers about the area and its history. Campers can also take advantage of the park's biking and hiking trails.

    Lake Leelanau RV Park

    • The Lake Leelanau RV Park is located slightly inland from Lake Michigan and along the shores of Lake Leelanau. The park has 196 sites camping sites with electric up to 50 amps, free cable TV, picnic tables and fire rings. Free wireless Internet can be found throughout the park, which also has sites for tents, showers and restrooms. Most of the sites have cement pads and patios, and many are directly on the waterfront. A boat launch, gas pump and boat docks are located in the park along Lake Leelanau, which has 21 miles of shoreline and is known for its fishing. Additional features include a swimming beach and various children's activities such as wagon rides and games during the summer. Ice cream socials are also held during the summer.

    Platte River Campground

    • A very popular campground that usually fills up in the summer months, the Platte River Campground in the River Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore Park is open year round and has 179 sites. The campground has both back-in and pull-through RV sites that come with electrical hookups. Tent and groups sites are also available along with a nearby back-country campground. A dump station and drinking water are located at the entrance to the campground, which also has water spigots spread around the sites. The campground has sinks for washing dishes and showers at its restrooms. Hiking and biking trails are within walking distance of the campground that is located in a secluded and forested area.
