Waterfront Campgrounds near the Gulf of Mexico in Fort Myers, Florida

Fort Myers, a Florida city along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River, is home to a historic downtown and attractions such as the winter estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, the Southwest Florida History Museum and the Imaginarium Hands-On Museum & Aquarium. Because Fort Myers is a short drive inland from the Gulf of Mexico and islands such as Captiva, Pine and Sanibel, the city has no beachfront camping options. One campground in nearby Fort Myers Beach provides RV sites directly along the Gulf of Mexico, and two others have campsites on the shoreline of nearby Hurricane Bay, which eventually empties into the Gulf.
  1. Red Coconut RV Resort

    • Red Coconut RV Resort in Fort Myers Beach has 41 campsites that sit along 450 feet of Gulf of Mexico shoreline, 16 miles south of downtown Fort Myers. Each waterfront site has a concrete pad, full hookups, Wi-Fi, cable television service and a picnic table. Other amenities include a beachside bathhouse and laundry room, barbecue grills, RV dump station, recreation center and shuffleboard courts. Daily, weekly and monthly rates are available, and pets are welcome. The resort also has parkside sites across Estero Boulevard, as well as furnished mobile home rentals. Red Coconut RV Resort is within 500 feet of both the Fresh Catch Bistro Lounge & Raw Bar and Heidi's Island Bistro, which serves German and American favorites for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Ebb Tide RV Park

    • Ebb Tide RV Park in Fort Myers Beach, less than 15 miles south of downtown Fort Myers, is home to 148 RV sites, including some waterfront sites with water and electric hookups along Hurricane Bay. The park also has tent camping, a boat landing, a dock with 38 free boat slips, and it provides access to the Gulf of Mexico. Other amenities include Wi-Fi, a heated outdoor swimming pool, shuffleboard courts, RV dump station, and restroom, shower and laundry facilities. Leashed pets are allowed, and daily, weekly and monthly rates are available. Ebb Tide is directly across the street from Parrot Key Caribbean Grill, Salty Sam's Marina and the Key West Express, which provides high-speed ferry service to Florida's southernmost city.

San Carlos RV Park & Islands

    • San Carlos RV Park & Islands in Fort Myers Beach lies on a peninsula that juts into Hurricane Bay, just north of Hurricane Pass and 14 miles south of downtown Fort Myers. Surrounded by several mangrove-laden bay islands, the park provides dozens of waterfront campsites for RVs and tents that include full hookups and picnic tables. Other park amenities include furnished mobile homes for rent, complimentary Wi-Fi, and restroom, shower and laundry facilities. Recreational amenities include a heated outdoor pool and spa, recreation center, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard courts, and a marina with boat ramp, boat slips and kayak rentals. Daily or monthly rates are available and pets are welcome. San Carlos RV Park & Islands is less than a quarter-mile from both the Fish Monger Restaurant and Pinchers Crab Shack.

A Short Walk or Cruise Away

    • If you'd like to camp on a Gulf of Mexico barrier island, take your own boat or ride a ferry to Cayo Costa State Park, which has 30 primitive tent campsites and rustic cabins a short walk from the beach. Spend a day swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling or fishing for species such as flounder, redfish, sheepshead, snapper, snook and tarpon. Other amenities include a boat dock, nature trails, kayak rentals, picnic pavilions and bathhouses. Ferries to Caya Costa leave from McCarthy's Marina on Captiva Island, about 30 miles from Fort Myers. Several other campgrounds within 25 miles of Fort Myers provide RV and tent campsites within a short walk or drive of the Gulf, including Periwinkle Park & Campground on Sanibel Island and Fort Myers/Pine Island KOA and Tropic Isle Park, both on Pine Island.
