Located about 25 miles southwest of Austin, San Marcos, Texas offers three RV parks and campgrounds located near Interstate 35. Visitors to San Marcos can spend time on the San Marcos River or at the city's falls and dam, which offer water activities like swimming, fishing, boating and whitewater rafting.

    • The three RV parks within the San Marcos city limits are Pecan Park Campground, Canyon Trail RV Resort and United RV Park. All of the parks are located just off the interstate, providing easy access for large RVs or new RV drivers. Pecan Park Campground is located in a flood zone, so check the weather forecast and consider other options if heavy rains are predicted. United RV Park is less than 10 miles from a large outlet mall if you are interested in shopping while you camp.

    • Sites at the three RV parks in San Marcos range in price from $24 to $40 per night as of April of 2010. All of the RV sites offer water, sewer and electric connections; the price difference is based on the privacy available. Standard sites at all three parks are less expensive than sites that allow more space between you and other campers. Premium sites at Pecan Park Campground cost $40 per night and offer privacy on both sides.

    • All of the RV parks in San Marcos offer campers wireless Internet access. Pecan Park Campground offers a heated indoor pool, on-site water park and a Frisbee golf course. United RV park also offers a pool, And Canyon Trail RV resort has a pool, club house, playground and fitness center.     • A camping visit in San Marcos during the summer months means plenty of heat. The average temperatures in the area from June through September approach 100 degrees, so make sure your RV air conditioner is charged with Freon. San Marcos does not get very cold, even during the winter months, but nights can be chilly. If your travels take you to San Marcos in December or January make sure your heaters are fully operational. January is the coldest month in San Marcos, with the average low temperature reaching 39 degrees.

Rio Vista Falls also offers those looking to cool off during the summer the chance to kayak, canoe or tube on the water. The falls feature drops for adventurous jumping. Activities at Wonder World Park in San Marcos include underground caves, an observation tower and an anti-gravity exhibit.
