Travel Trailer Parks Near Sumter, South Carolina

South Carolina has a rich history that dates from the time when the Cherokee Indians called this area home, through the Civil War to today. The Sumter area near the Sumter National Forest offers many opportunities for hiking, fishing, duck hunting, boating and trail riding. There are a number of RV parks where RVers can park their motor homes and travel trailers while they visit the area.
  1. Poinsett State Park

    • Poinsett State Park is 13 miles from Sumter, South Carolina in the Santee High Hills by the Wateree Swamp and is in a pine and hardwood forest. Visitors with travel trailers and RVs can choose from 25 sites with 40-foot spots that include water and electric hookups, and the Park has a dumping station. The Park provides free Internet access at the visitor's center. There are also picnic tables and shelters, and guests can rent boats and canoes. Other camping facilities include cabins, tent sites and equestrian campsites. Park activities include guided hikes and classes, fishing, non-motorized boating and canoeing, volleyball, hiking and equestrian trails. Park guests are welcome to take advantage of the interlinking hiking and horseback riding trails that connect Poinsett to Manchester State Forest.

    Lee State Natural Area

    • Twenty-one miles from Sumter, South Carolina is Lee State Natural Area. The park is on 2,800 acres next to the Lynches River, surrounded by hardwood forest. Campers with trailers and RVs will find that the sites have room for 30 to 36-inch recreational vehicles with water and electrical hookups, picnic tables and a dumping station. The park also offers tent and equestrian sites as well as a primitive group camping area. Visitors will find picnic tables and shelters, along with a boat launch. Park activities include fishing and an educational center with an ecology lab and opportunities to learn about the environment. There is also hiking and seven miles of horseback riding trails. Nearby parks are Woods Ban Natural Area that provides more opportunities for hiking, fishing, and picnicking, the South Carolina Cotton Museum in Lee County and golf at the semi-private Bishopville Country Club.

    Big Water Lake Club

    • Formerly a private resort, the Big Water Lake Club is located 37 miles from Sumter, South Carolina on the banks of the Marion Lake. Trailer spaces have picnic tables, grills, full electric, water and sewer hookups, and a dumping station. The club also offers RV and boat storage. There is a camp store and restaurant, gas station, several shower houses and picnic areas. Activities include fishing and boating on a catch and release pond. In addition, the club has areas for basketball, volleyball, soccer and putt-putt golf. There are several nearby golf courses, such as the Foxboro Golf Course, seasonal apple picking and hot air ballooning at Sunny Days Balloons.
