55 Plus RV Parks in South Carolina

South Carolina offers a lot of camping opportunities for people traveling in RVs. The terrain offers mountains in the Upstate, oceanfront parks in the Lowcountry and PeeDee and historical sites and lakes in the Midlands. While all parks are different, there are some that are more laid back and cater more to people age 55 and over.
  1. Upstate

    • People traveling to the Upstate have a wide selection of RV parks to choose from. More than a dozen dot the lakes in the region including Keowee Falls, which has a quiet time of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and a strict rule against vicious animals. It is located a few minutes from Clemson University. A more metro area park is Paris Mountain State Park, which is the highest point in the Greenville urban area. It is in a scenic location, but just a few minutes from major shopping areas including downtown Greenville. Of the 55 RV sites, half are able to accommodate 40-foot long vehicles and the rest accommodate 35-feet. Reservations are required.

    Midlands

    • The highlight of camping in the Midlands is the Lake Murray area, which offers numerous sites on a large lake perfect for fishing and swimming. The Woodsmoke Family Campground in Irmo offers about 60 RV sites tucked away in a forested setting surrounded by large pine trees. This is a smoking and alcohol free park. The Edmund RV Park in Lexington offers more than 125 sites and offers tight security. The Lexington County Sheriff's Office substation is located at the park. It is a Good Sampark.

    Pee Dee

    • The Pee Dee section of the state is known for its fishing, flat hiking trails and access to the ocean. One of the more popular RV campgrounds is Bass Lake, which features a seven-acre fishing pond. There are almost 60 RV sites in this park outside of Dillon, and it is located a short drive from Interstate 95. Big Cypress Lake is located in Conway and bills itself as a stress-free, relaxation friendly park. The on-site lake is stocked with bass. People looking to stay closer to the ocean can try Myrtle Beach area parks including Ocean Lakes, Myrtle Beach Travel Park and Pirateland, which all offer ocean side sites.

    Lowcountry

    • The Lowcountry is the laid back part of South Carolina where people go to relax and watch the tide roll in. Oak Plantation Campground is the closest large-scale RV park to Charleston, which is the hub of the Lowcountry. It is located in a wooded, tranquil area. The Lake Aire RV Park and Campground is located west of Charleston in the town of Hollywood. It has more than 70 RV sites and a fishing pond.
