How many days to drive in RV from Sacramento west Yellowstone?

It is about 750 miles from Sacramento to West Yellowstone, the closest town to the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Driving without any breaks will take around 12 hours. With a travel trailer (RV) or towing a vehicle you can expect to take about 16-20 hours. However, this is a very long and tiring drive, and it is recommended that you break the trip up into two or three days.

For a two-day drive, you can plan to drive about 300-400 miles on the first day and then 350-450 miles on the second day. Here is a possible itinerary:

Day 1:

* Start from Sacramento and head east on I-80.

* Take I-80 to Reno, Nevada, which is approximately a 4.5-hour drive.

* From Reno, take US-395 north for about 2 hours until you reach Susanville, California.

* In Susanville, you can stay at a hotel or campground.

Day 2:

* Start from Susanville and continue on US-395 north for approximately 5 hours.

* This part of the drive will take you through some beautiful scenery, including Eagle Lake and Lassen Volcanic National Park.

* From Lassen Volcanic National Park, you can continue north on US-395 for about 1 hour until you reach Burney Falls.

* From Burney Falls, continue on US-395 north for another hour until you reach McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park.

* In McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, you can stay at a hotel or campground.

Day 3:

* Start from McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park and continue on US-395 north for about 5.5 hours.

* This part of the drive will take you through some beautiful scenery, including Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

* From Shasta-Trinity National Forest, you can continue north on US-395 for about 3.5-5 hours until you reach West Yellowstone, Montana.

This itinerary allows for a reasonable pace and plenty of time to stop and enjoy the scenery. It is also important to factor in time for road construction and weather delays.
