Located at the foot of the Uwharrie Mountains next to the Uwharrie Forest in Troy, the Underground House, a single-family cabin, originally was built in 1980 and remodeled in 2006 to include enlarged skylights, geothermal heating and air conditioning. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom house features Aspen and cedar log furniture, cedar-lined closets, queen-size log beds, towels and linens, a washer and dryer, a whirlpool tub and rainfall showers. The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator with ice-maker, oven with electric flat-top burners, appliances, cookware and utensils. The living room has a leather sleeper-sofa, love seat and rocker-recliner, gas fireplace, cable television and DVD player. The house also has a recreation area with bumper pool, air hockey and miniature pingpong game tables. There is a deep lake beside the house for fishing, a horse barn and pasture, and a covered picnic area with swings. The house is non-smoking and pets are not allowed. Reservations are recommended at least a month in advance, and a two-night minimum stay is required. For hunters, the house is located within the Uwharrie National Forest, which is part of the 2 million acres of public lands managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and designated as "game land" for public hunting.

Located on 26 acres of forest, vineyard and pasture in Murphy, is the Scottish Woods Log Cabin Resort. The resort offers four different cabins, featuring one, two or three bedrooms with queen-size beds, towels and linens, wide-plank wood floors and walls, private bathrooms, full automatic heat and central air conditioning. Each cabin comes with a fully equipped kitchen, including appliances, cookware, dishes, utensils and a dishwasher. Living areas in each of the cabins feature a fireplace with wood provided, satellite cable television with DVD players, Amish wood-frame rocking chairs, wooden furniture and microfiber couches. Each cabin has a private porch, featuring a deck with personal hot tub, grassy back yards with a gas grill for outdoor cooking and complimentary wireless Internet. Although guests are not permitted to hunt on resort property, they can take a short drive to the Nantahala Game Lands to hunt.

Located near the Uwharrie National Forest, the Greensboro Campground offers guests a variety of one- and two-bedroom rustic cabins. One-room cabins have a full-size bed and a set of bunk beds, and two-room cabins have a full-size bed plus two sets of bunk beds. All cabins feature a private porch, picnic table and fire pit. Campground amenities include shower and bath houses, a heated outdoor swimming pool, children's playground, on-site laundromat, propane filling station and covered pavilion. Campers must bring all personal-need items such as linens, blankets, toiletries, towels, cooking utensils and campfire wood. Reservations are recommended and a minimum two-night stay is required. Pets are allowed. Although no hunting is allowed in the campground, hunters can travel to the Buckhorn Game Land in neighboring Orange County.
