Luggage that is made with nylon, fabric or leather is the choice in trendy luggage designs. It offers more flexibility and "gives" when packing items with some types offering "expansion" zippers. The traveler will gain a few extra square inches of space for additional items. Fabric and leather luggage comes in variety of prints or designs with the advantage to quickly locate it at the baggage carousel.
A carry-on luggage cannot go beyond the maximum weight of 40 lbs. Besides the restrictive weight limit, the size specification of carry-on luggage is mandatory also. Rulings state if the carry-on surpasses the size limit of 45 linear inches (the sum of length + width + height), it will re-routed to the checked luggage area. Many brands of luggage insert a tag stating if the bag matches carry-on requirements.
Offering convenience, a bag with wheels is easier to pull through airport terminals than carrying a bag with a handle. Most wheeled suitcases come with two or four wheels. The two-wheeled trolley normally has recessed wheels, which are less likely to be damaged. Four-wheeled suitcases, also known as spinner luggage, offer better stability and are easier to maneuver, since the wheels rotate in several positions.
Check-in luggage is subjected to rough handling. Suitcases are the most common and practical option type. Between being thrown on conveyor belts, and during transport to and from the plane´s luggage hold, the skeleton of the bag commands for durability. It should also be spacious enough to accommodate clothing, shoes, toiletries and other personal belongings.
Garment bags can be found in wheeled or over-the-shoulder versions, but some do not comply with carry-on restrictions. Backpacks (with and without frames and wheels) are another options for travelers. There are travel duffel bags with straps to use as a carry-on, or larger models with wheels or back straps needing to be checked-in.
