Locate ATV trails near the area you want to camp. If you know of a campsite you prefer to stay, calculate the distance from the trails to the campsite, so you are not wasting travel time. There may be a closer campsite to the trails you want to ride.
Call ahead to the campsite to verify it is okay to bring ATVs onto the property. Depending on the campsite rules and regulations, ATVs may not be allowed.
Decide how you will tow or haul the ATVs to the campsite. ATVs can be put on trailers and pulled behind vehicles, or they can be hauled in the bed of a truck. Before loading the ATV into the bed of a truck, check the towing weight limit set by the manufacturer. This information is in the owners manual.
Pack an ATV cover and locking system. Keep the ATV covered when, not in use. Depending on the area you are traveling to the ATV may be exposed to harmful elements and unwanted pests and birds. Use the locking system to secure the ATV when leaving the campsite without the ATV or at night.
