If you choose a spot where there is no fee for camping, it is important to ensure that you are in a place where camping is permitted. Camping in a location where it is not permitted can lead to fines or even in some areas you can be arrested.
Inquire if you need a permit to build a campfire for spots that require no reservations and no fees. Each city has different laws that must be adhered to. Contact the local city council to find out what the regulations and requirements are.
Pay attention to the weather. A campsite where you can reserve a space will often provide shelter, such as a community house or a club house in the case of inclement weather. When camping in a remote or non-designated camping area, your tent or your car may prove to be the only shelter in the event of bad weather.
Bring the proper camping equipment in relation to where you are camping. If you are camping at a location that requires a fee but no reservations, you may have amenities such as drinking water and toilets. In either case, prepare with the right supplies. If you prefer to be ecologically sensitive, bring a filtration pump or other ways to filter water from lakes or rivers. Bring garbage bags so that at the conclusion of your expedition you can carry away all refuse with you.
