Travel & Resort Ideas With Newborns

Just because you are traveling with a newborn doesn't mean you'll have less of a vacation. It does mean, however, that you'll have to plan around the newborn's schedule and make reservations at a place that caters to families and that offers services that will allow you and your spouse to rest easy.
  1. Layout

    • When you are traveling with only adults and older children, having a room with a kitchen and more space is basically unnecessary: you and your party can go to the hotel's dining room or nearby restaurants for your meals. But when you have a newborn vacationing with you, you'll need more space and a kitchen where you can warm bottles and other food for the newborn who is probably on an erratic schedule. In most cases, you can call room service each time your newborn needs to be fed, but that can become quite expensive.

    Childcare

    • When you're traveling with a newborn, look for a place to stay that will take care of your child and even provide you with a babysitter at night. For example, Club Med and Beaches provide you with both. In addition, you will pay upfront for all but a handful of services, which means that there may be a few surprises when you check out.

    Items for Newborns

    • When you are traveling with a newborn, be sure that your hotel will be able to provide baby shampoo, bottle warmers, cribs and other baby paraphernalia either free or at little expense to you. A trip like this one is so much more pleasant if you can avoid gathering all those items, and most family-friendly hotels will provide them, free of charge.

    Childproofing

    • Undoubtedly, your newborn will want to explore you room at the first opportunity so childproofing is important. First, check with the hotel because many have wall covers and other safety devices that will make your stay less harrowing. On your hands and knees, check under the bed and the drawers for anything that may be dangerous. Tape washcloths on any pointed furniture to avoid your newborn's injury from a fall. If there are telephone or light cords that may be a problem, get them out of the way by taping them to the wall. Finally, if you are staying in a suite that is multiple-stories high, bring along a removable gate that should be placed in the stair landing.
