How to Travel With Toiletries

Ever since the attempted bombing at Heathrow Airport in 2006, restrictions have been placed on traveling with toiletries. All air travelers must follow the 3-1-1 rule enacted by the Transportation Security Administration. Specific, small quantities of gels, liquids and aerosols may be transported in a carry-on bag by each passenger. In addition, larger quantities of any toiletries you may need can be packed in a bag that will be checked with your airline.

Instructions

    • 1

Place each liquid or gel toiletry in a container that is 3.4 oz. or smaller. If the liquid or gel is already packaged in a container of 3.4 oz. or smaller, that is acceptable. Aerosols must be pre-packaged in containers 3.4 oz. or less. You may not use larger bottles and fill them partially or pack rolled-up toothpaste tubes.

    • 2

Place all of the small containers into a quart-size, zip-style, clear plastic bag and seal. You may only have one bag. Gallon-size bags or bags that don't zip closed are not allowed.

    • 3

Remove the bag from your carry-on at the airport, and place it on the conveyor belt to complete the X-ray screening.
