Trout Restaurants in Sullivan County, New York

Trout fishing is a highlight in Sullivan County, New York. The area is nestled in the Catskill Mountains along with abundant fishing streams. In fact, trout fishing tales are probably as popular in this part of the country as is the story of Rip Van Winkle falling asleep for 20 years in these same mountains. Finding a restaurant with fresh trout is not, however, as easy as spinning a tale, but it is possible.
  1. Fresh Trout Restaurant

    • "Many a fish story has been told in our fisherman's lounge," reports the website of Eldred Preserve, Sullivan County's largest fishing resort and restaurant. This local and tourist eatery is one of only a few Sullivan County dining locations that actually has fresh trout on the menu, and it generally prepares it, on most days except Thursdays, in about a dozen different ways. Trout Newburg, Crab Stuffed Trout, Trout Grenoble and Sunrise Trout are four of the offerings, and the recipes are included on their website. They also serve other non-trout main courses and a la cart options.

    Customer's Catch of the Day

    • Ianine's Restaurant, part of the De Bruce Country Inn on the Willowemoc River, cooks and serves the fresh trout that customers catch that day. The resort has a formal dining room that is elegantly decorated with antique decor and silk drapes, all part of the ambiance that guests can enjoy with a beverage, appetizer, bread or even a salad while their own catch of the day is cooking in the kitchen. The restaurant also has outdoor seating with a view of the Catskill Mountains. Dinner options, other than trout, are also available.

    Pizza or Trout

    • Benji & Jake's is known as the second restaurant to open in Kauneonga Lake, and it is a two-story brick building with two decks that overlooks Sullivan County's White Lake. These two brothers vacationed on the lake when they were young, which may explain why they have both fresh trout and homemade pizza on the menu as well as other choices, such as seared tuna. They also have docking for boats.
