The apparition of the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist is claimed to have appeared in the south gable of Knock Parish Church. Knock Shrine is open throughout the year but the main pilgrimage season is between the last Sunday in April and the Second Sunday in October. Pilgrims traditionally visit the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and perform the Stations of the Cross near the shrine itself. The 15 mysteries of the rosary, joyful, sorrowful and glorious are performed by the pilgrim as they walk anti-clockwise around the church.

The Knock Folk Museum is situated in the grounds of Knock Shrine. Its aim is to explain the background and story of the apparition of 1879. The museum's permanent displays of religious, farming, craft and clothing exhibits help visitors understand the apparition in the context of how people lived at the time. The museum has a gift shop where visitors can buy local handmade items such as St. Brigid's crosses and candles. The museum is open every day from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. between May and October. From November until April it is open between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Knock International Airport was built after Pope John Paul II visited Knock in 1979 and declared the religious importance of the town's shrine. The airport was completed in 1986 with the aim of attracting visitors to the shrine. It has since become one of the country's busiest regional airports with around 700,000 passengers passing through it every year, according to the airport's website.
