Things to Do in Ireland in March

Ireland lies on an island just across the Irish Sea from Great Britain. The island itself is composed of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Ireland has a long, rich and diverse cultural history that can be seen throughout the country. If you are planning to be in Ireland during the month of March, you will find that there are plenty of interesting things to do while you are there.
  1. Saint Patrick's Day Festival and Parade Dublin

    • If you happen to be in Ireland in March, it will be virtually impossible to miss the Saint Patrick's Day activities. Saint Patrick's Day falls on March 17 each year as does the official parade held in the capitol city of Dublin. The Saint Patrick's Day Festival, put on by the Irish government, spans the five days leading up to the parade and includes family events, dancing, musical performances, comedy, theatre and more. If your plans don't have you in Dublin proper, don't worry as the entire country will be celebrating Saint Patrick's Day.

    Feis Ceoil Festival

    • The Feis Ceoil Association began back in 1896 as a way to encourage music education for all ages and to promote musical programs. The association puts on concerts throughout the year and works on promoting music awareness and education all over Ireland. Each year, the association holds the 11-day-long Feis Ceoil Festival in Dublin during the last part of March. The festival holds over 180 competitions for competitors ages 7 and up in categories such as choir, solo singing, pianoforte, woodwind and brass.

    Take An Escorted Bus Tour

    • If you would like to learn more about Ireland's history, an escorted bus tour may be right for you. Escorted bus tours range from short day trips to week-long tours and are offered by a number of tour companies in Ireland. Theme tours are available that cover Irish castles, lochs or pubs. If none of those interest you, then just take a general tour and see a wide range of historical sights around the country. Bus tours generally include accommodations while on your trip and an experienced tour guide to offer information and answer questions.
