Unusual Things to Do in Vegas

Looking for some quirky things to do in Las Vegas? For those who want to have unique experiences and not do the stuff that is covered in all the tourist guides, here are a few suggestions for unusual activities—including rubbing a statue of butts for luck, renting a Rhino, taking a weightless flight, watching a volcano erupt and viewing artisan cigar makers.

  1. Rub a Bronze Statue of Butts

    • Among the world's most unusual statues is the “No Ifs, Ands or…” work of art that's featured at the main entrance of the Riviera. It pays tribute to the resort’s long-running topless revue \"Crazy Girls.\" In 1997, artist Michael Conine lined up the seven sexy dancers and immortalized their butts in bronze. Weighing 1,540 pounds, the statue is the most fondled artwork on the Strip. Rumor has it that if you rub the derrieres of the dancers, you'll have good luck.

    See a Volcano Erupt

    • Have you ever seen fiery lava? If not, visit The Mirage Volcano. When it’s at rest in the afternoon, gentle waters cascade down its sides, but at night you can watch it explode every hour between dusk and midnight in a stunning display. You'll see massive fireballs that shoot more than 12 feet into the air, along with flames that ignite and literally dance to a special soundtrack created by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain.

    Drive a Rhino

    • If you want to see southern Nevada's beautiful desert up close, Ultimate Off-Road Adventures offers a thrilling opportunity. The company boasts a fleet of Rhinos. The rough terrain vehicles can climb or descend steep hills, as well as speed across the desert floor at 60 mph. You can rent these two-seat vehicles for a half or full day and explore dunes and trails in the remote desert where the scenery is jaw-dropping. ?

    Experience Zero Gravity

    • Want to do something few people—except astronauts—have done? Take a weightless flight. Zero Gravity Corp. offers its ZERO-G Experience in Las Vegas, in addition to other cities around the United States. Basically, you'll have a brief training session followed by a 90-minute flight aboard the \"G-Force One,\" a modified Boeing 727 that can perform parabolic maneuvers. Designed for fun, the aircraft’s interior is a zero-gravity playroom, complete with padded floors and walls. The flights take off from the Signature Air Terminal at McCarran International Airport.

    Observe Cigars Being Rolled

    • Hand-rolling cigars is a rare art performed by a talented few. You can see this being done at the Don Pablo Cigar Co. during a free tour of the premises. A long table is set up where master craftsmen lay out leaves of tobacco and roll them. Afterward, purchase one of the sampler boxes in the cigar manufacturer’s retail shop and light up while taking a stroll along the famous Las Vegas Strip.
