Take a 1 meter long stick and put it in the ground.
Write a W at the tip of the shadow of the stick, and wait for about 13min then write an E at the moved tip, and draw a straight line from the W to the E this will give you your west and east line. ( This works anywhere in the world )
Another way to navigate is with a watch, some of you may know of this trick :). Hold your watch horizonally and point the hour hand at the sun.
Now take a twig and put it half way between the hour hand and the 12 this gives you the North and South line. You may be wondering which way is north and which way is south just look at the sun( not right at it of course dont be stupid ).
Everybody knows the sun is at its highest at noon, and during noon its pointing north just use your common sense.
Last way would be using the sky to guide your way. The Big dipper has 7 stars its last 2 are known has the pointing stars they point right at the North star.
To be more accurate use cassiopeia which has 5 stars its middle one is pointing right at the north star to. By using both the Big dipper and Cassiopeia its should be easy it find the north star.
Only thing to do from there is to draw a line with your eyes from the North star to the ground to have and accurate North and South line. THIS ONLY WORKS WHEN YOUR IN THE NORTH!!!!!
Southern folks such as my self most use the southern cross to guide us. The Southern Cross is tilted and has 4 stars.
Once you find the cross in the midnight sky follow the 2 stars that make up the long axis follow them 5 times the distance between them and draw a line down to the ground.
