Select a sheet of paper. A sheet of printer paper is suitable, but you can use construction paper, parchment paper and virtually any other type that folds with ease. If you're into eco-friendly crafts, you can use discarded wrapping paper or other types as well. The paper should be 8 by 11 inches, but you can experiment with different sizes if you want.
Fold the sheet of paper upward halfway up the sheet, with it facing to where it is taller than it is wide.
Apply a glue stick up the right and left sides of the folded sheet of paper.
Fold the entire left side of the paper inward by 1 inch. Repeat this step with the right side. Hold the folded areas in place firmly for a few seconds and release. Let the structure dry for 10 minutes.
Spread a layer of glue with the stick over each top corner of the unfolded top flap of the created envelope. Fold each corner inward by an inch. This creates a pointed tip with the top flap, resembling a standard envelope. Let the envelope dry for 10 minutes. This creates a standard check-book-sized envelope that can then be decorated.
