Things to Do Around San Jose

San Jose is located in the middle of the California's Silicon Valley and it is the 10th largest city in the United States. San Jose is a center for arts, culture and technology and it has several museums to illustrate this fact. In addition, San Jose is part of the California's wine region with more than 20 vineyards and it has a long running and award-winning comedy show in town. San Jose might be full of other things to do as well but these three activities make San Jose a must city to visit.
  1. Museums

    • If you like history, art, archeology or sciences, you will have a blast in one of the numerous museums in San Jose. Whether it is a rainy day or you are just looking to spend couple of hours admiring some of the best collections of historical and cultural items in the United States, you will not be disappointed.

Kids will especially enjoy the Children's Discovery Museum and the Tech Museum of Innovation's interactive exhibitions. The entire family will be entertained at the Intel Museum where they can get to know the famous computer chip and the history of the Silicon Valley.

History Park at Kelley Park, on the other hand, has a replica of the old Main Street of San Jose and you can visit many stores and business that were part of it. In addition, music lovers should not miss the Center for Beethoven Studies and Museum, history buffs will love the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium and art enthusiasts will enjoy the San Jose Museum of Art.

    Wine Tasting

    • California is known for its wineries and taking a wine tour is a perfect way to learn more about the Californian wine culture and to taste some of the local wines. Many times reservations for wine tasting are not necessary, especially if your group is smaller than six people. If you feel adventurous, you can just jump into your car and drive to some of the wineries nearby. You can, however, also book a guided tour that takes you to one or two different wineries. Most of the wineries open at 11 a.m. so don't arrive earlier than that. In addition, the usual length of a guided tour is about five to six hours. One of the wineries close to San Jose is J. Lohr Vineyards and Wines; it has no tasting fee and serves current release wines for tasting. Sometimes, they also serve mature vintage and pre-release wines.

    ComedySportz

    • ComedySportz is not a comedy about sports but comedy as a sport. In ComedySportz two teams formed by two improv comedians compete against each others for audience laughs and points. The audience has the power to suggest the scenes, games, operas and musicals the comedians need to improvise and a referee calls fouls and makes sure the match moves forward without losing its pace. At the end, the audience decides which team wins by voting. Every now and then, lucky or unlucky---depending how you look at it---audience members are also called on stage to be part of the act, so be prepared to let loose and laugh. The show is suitable for the entire family.
