Nusa Dua was developed to provide accommodations and entertainment for high-end travelers and visiting dignitaries. As such, the area is well-known for its luxury resorts. Visitors can choose from a number of fine hotels and resorts that cater to visitors' every need, with fine dining, entertainment, spa treatments, pristine beaches, snorkeling and golf. Some of the notable hotels are the Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali, Nusa Dua Hotel and Spa and the Grand Hyatt Bali.
The natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere of Nusa Dua provides an opportunity to indulge in relaxing and beautifying spa treatments. Many of Nusa Dua's fine hotels offer luxury spa amenities. Treatments may include massages, facials, fitness centers, saunas, exotic scrubs and reflexology. There are packages available for all needs, from aromatherapy to jet lag massage to romantic packages for couples. At the Grand Hyatt Bali, guests indulge at the Kriya Spa, which features traditional treatments of the region like authentic Balinese massage. The Mandara Spa at Nikko Bali Resort and Spa is an all-natural experience with massages, facials, and beauty and relaxation treatments.
Bali is a haven for surfers, and Nusa Dua is no exception. October to April--the wet season--is the best time to surf Nusa Dua, when the trade winds are off shore. The exposed reef creates great waves for surfing, and there are waves for all levels of surf experience. Some of the biggest waves in Bali are at Nusa Dua. Beaches from which to surf are available within walking distance from some of the resorts, although surfers must take a boat out to the break. But surfers beware--there is quite a current.
Pulau Penyu, or Turtle Islands, is a cluster of three islands--Pulau Selingan, Pulau Bakkungan Kecil and Pulau Gulisan, although Pulau Selingan is the only island open to tourists. It is a green and hawksbill turtle conservation area. Nesting is most common when seas are calm, between July and October. There are also komodo dragons, birds, snakes and other wildlife. Visitors must travel by boat, and there are tour companies that can provide transportation. Glass bottom boats also make the trek to the island, allowing visitors to see the abundant marine life of the area. Tourists can arrange to see the turtles nesting at night, although only one landing per evening is open to tourists to protect the turtles and their habitat.
Nusa Dua provides opportunities for endless entertainment and activity, including snorkeling, parasailing, jetskiing, diving, fly fishing, swimming, mountain biking, tennis and squash. Golfers will enjoy the Bali Golf and Country Club with two distinct courses, one featuring rainforest and volcanic mountains and the other showcasing the Indian Ocean. The club also offers a golf institute for lessons.
For those whose sport is shopping, Nusa Dua offers Bali Collection, an upscale shopping area with brand name stores, including SOGO, the leading Japanese department store. Located away from the activity and crowds of downtown shopping, this mall has not just shopping but dining and entertainment options, too.
