These blood-sucking microscopic bugs are so contagious that they can spread to your pet after just brief contact with an affected animal. Knowing how to stop and control earmites helps you rest easy when your dog or cat gets social with other pets around your home or in public. It also prevents infestations from occurring when out in the wild with your pets.

Things You'll Need

• Flea-and-tick shampoo
• Cotton swab
• Mineral oil

     Bathe your dog or cat with a specially formulated flea-and-tick pet shampoo.

     Dry your dog or cat with a towel until it is only slightly damp.

     Saturate a cotton swab with mineral oil, which can be found in most drug stores.

     Swab just inside your dog or cat's ear canals with the oil-soaked cotton swab. The mineral oil is harmless to your pet but is repulsive to earmites.

   • 5

     Repeat Step 4 once a week or after every bath.
