Hwy. 101 Attractions in California

U.S. Highway 101 runs the coast of California from Los Angeles to the Oregon border, and then ends in Washington. The highway at times joins the famed U.S. Highway 1 or Pacific Coast Highway at points, and runs farther inland at other points. Many natural and human-made sights can be found along U.S. 101.
  1. Within Los Angeles

    • Within the Los Angeles city limits, U.S. 101 passes several noteworthy sites, including the Hollywood Memorial Park, where stars including Jayne Mansfield and Johnny Ramone, are buried, the Museum of Death and Universal Studios Hollywood.

    From L.A. to Santa Barbara

    • U.S. 101 passes the Cadillac-shaped building in Tarzana, the Dead Pets of the Stars Cemetery in Calabasas, the Statue of Chief White Eagle in Agoura Hills and the Santa Claus Statue at Nyeland Acres on the way from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara. As the highway moves closer to the coast, it passes Tar Pit Park in Carpenteria and the Moreton Bay Fig Tree as it enters Santa Barbara.

    From Santa Barbara to Pismo Beach

    • Sights on the way from Santa Barbara to Pismo Beach include Danish Theme Town in Solvang, Ostrich Land in Buelton, Los Alamos Laboratories in Los Alamos, the Big Clam Statues, Dinosaur Caves Park and Cowboy Tree Statue in Pismo Beach.

    From San Louis Obispo to San Jose

    • San Louis Obispo has Bubble Gum Alley and the World's First Motel. Further on you will find the Two Story Outhouse in San Juan Bautista, the World's Longest Braided Garlic in Gilroy, the World's Largest Permanent Outdoor Monopoly Board, Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose.

    San Jose to San Francisco

    • On the way from San Jose to San Francisco, U.S. 101 will take you past a Haunted Toys R' Us store and the Fruit Cocktail Water Tower both in Sunnyvale, the Computer History Museum in Mountainview, a Naked Running Car statue in Palo Alto, the Museum of Pez Memorabilia in Burlingame and all the sites of San Francisco, including the Bigfoot Lodge.

    San Francisco to Eureka

    • The road from San Franciso to Eureka passes the Giant Praying Mantis statue in Mill Valley, the Giant Nude Woman in Greenbrae, a collection of odd animal statues and the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa. Farther north are the Coppola Winery Movie Museum in Geyserville and the Tribute to Prostitutes in Ukiah. The famous drive-through tree is in Leggett followed by a series of redwood-related sites until the road reaches Eureka on the coast.

    Eureka to the Oregon Border

    • You will find the World's Largest Totem Pole in McKinleyville, Trees of Mystery in Klamath, a Pair of Big Scissors and a Giant Shark in Crescent City.
