Tips on Disneyworld in Florida

The Walt Disney World Resort spans 40 square miles in central Florida outside of the city of Orlando. The Disney Resort includes four theme parks, two water parks, more than 20 resort hotels, more than 100 restaurants, two entertainment areas, a variety of shops, two spas and recreation activities including four championship golf courses and water sports.
  1. Theme Parks

    • Disney's four main theme parks are: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. Park Guidemaps and daily Times Guides are available at the entrance of each park to help guests locate the attractions and plan their day. Disney's free FASTPASS service allows guests to make "reservations" for popular rides and return at a later time to avoid waiting in long lines. Disney also offers the PhotoPass service, in which guests can have their photo taken front of scenic landmarks and then view and purchase photos online.

    Accommodations

    • Disney World offers a variety of resort hotels for every budget and family size. Value resorts are the most economically priced and offer limited amenities, while moderate resorts offer mini fridges in the rooms, a restaurant and recreation activities. Deluxe resorts offer larger rooms, several restaurants and lounges, and a variety of activities. Disney also has deluxe villas which offer full kitchens and can accommodate up to 13 guests, and a campground with cabins and RV hookups. Guests staying on property have exclusive access to 'Extra Magic Hours,' which means they are able to enter the parks one hour earlier or stay up to three hours later than other visitors to the parks.

    Dining

    • Disney World's dining options range from fast food-type counter-service eateries to casual table-service restaurants featuring character meetings to fine dining restaurants to dinner shows. Dining reservations are recommended for all table-service restaurants and resort guests can make reservations up to 180 days before their arrival. Disney offers several dining plans with pre-purchased meal credits, which can save guests 20 to 25 percent on food. Disney also offers refillable mugs for purchase, which can be used for unlimited refills of soda, tea and coffee at their resort hotel's soda fountain

    Transportation

    • The closest airport to Disney World is Orlando International. Disney offers free shuttle service from Orlando International to the Disney Resort via Disney's Magical Express for all guests staying on property. Rental cars and private car service also are available through Disney. Guests driving to Disney can take either Florida's Turnpike to the Osceola Parkway or Interstate 4. While on site, guests have access to Disney's free resort transportation, including monorails, buses and ferries that run between the theme parks and hotels.
