Disney World Resort Tips

The Walt Disney World Resort consists of more than 20 Disney-owned hotels, four theme parks, two water parks, plus opportunities for shopping, entertainment and recreation. Guests will find many advantages to staying at the resort, making their vacations even more enjoyable.
  1. Guest Perks

    • Guests staying in accommodations inside the Walt Disney World Resort are provided with special privileges. Resort guests receive free transportation throughout the resort by monorail, bus and boat. Magical Express Transportation provides free transportation and luggage delivery from Orlando International Airport to the Disney World Resorts.

Another perk that guests of the Walt Disney World Resort receive is a Key to the World Card. This convenient card does much more than just unlock the resort door. The Key to the World Card serves as a ticket for admission into the parks, is given to a server to settle the bill if using the Disney Dining Plan and can be used to charge purchases.

    Theme Parks

    • Walt Disney World Resort guests may take advantage of Extra Magic Hours. This feature allows guests to have extra time in the parks, beyond the regular schedule offered to the public. Each day, one of the four theme parks opens either one hour earlier than regular time, or stays open three hours later than regular closing time. Guests receive an Extra Magic Hours schedule when they check into their hotel, which provides specific details for each park during each day of their stay.

To avoid waiting in long lines for park attractions, guests can take advantage of Disney's Fastpass Service. Using the Fastpass is similar to making a reservation to ride an attraction. Guests receive a Fastpass ticket, which they redeem at a later, appointed time, to access the attraction with minimal waiting time.

    Dining

    • A money-saving option for resort guests is the Disney Dining Plan. With this plan, guests choose and purchase a dining package in advance, saving up to 30 percent of meal costs. For instance, with the Magic Your Way Plus Dining package, guests receive one table-service meal, one quick-service meal and one snack per person per night of their stay (Walt Disney World).

To save money on meals, guests may bring breakfast items, such as granola and cereal bars, from home and eat in their room. Eating breakfast in the room will also save time in the mornings, making it possible to get to the parks a little earlier.

To avoid lunch crowds and long lines, guests should plan to be at a restaurant when it opens.

    Saving Money

    • Items that guests may be tempted to buy in the theme parks include sunglasses, rain ponchos, personal cooling fans, glow sticks and bottled water. It is much cheaper to buy these items at home and bring them along.
