Walt Disney World opened in 1971 with its original theme park, the Magic Kingdom. In the 1980s and 1990s, three more theme parks and two water parks were added.
The theme parks, including the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT Center, offer visitors a safari ride, roller coasters, Disney characters and a tour of the world. When they want to cool off they can visit Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.
Market Place, Pleasure Island and the West Side make up the three areas of Downtown Disney. Visitors will find great shopping, dining and entertainment venues.
Walt Disney World has 23-themed hotels to fit everyone's budget and hotels in Downtown Disney as well. Each park has accommodations to choose from to make it easier to plan a vacation.
Families can save money by traveling to Walt Disney World during the off-season. Vacationers will find lower rates in January, February, mid-August through September, and between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
