Location of Disney in Florida

Walt Disney World is the Disney park in Orlando, Fla. The other Disney Park in the United States, Disneyland, is in Anaheim, Calif., near Los Angeles.

  1. Identification

    • Walt Disney World is in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., near Orlando. It is also close to Kissimmee, Fla., and Winter Park, Fla.

    Significance

    • Lake Buena Vista is landlocked, meaning it is not bordered by an ocean. This is good news for those traveling during hurricane season, as most hurricanes either miss the area completely or are downgraded before the storm arrives. As of September 2010, Orlando had not been hit by a hurricane in six years. Before that, the last hurricane to hit the area was in 1960.

    Considerations

    • Walt Disney World is close to an hour from the Atlantic Coast by road and two hours from the Gulf Coast. This makes visiting the beach during a trip to Disney World easy, as long as you have a car. However, it is eight hours or more to Miami and other South Florida cities.
