Activities at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Massachusetts

The Mullins Center at Amherst, Massachusetts is the University of Massachusett's multipurpose 10,500 seat facility. Besides playing home to the University's basketball and hockey teams, the center also hosts concerts, conferences and other events as well as providing skating time for the public for both figure skating and ice hockey practice.
  1. Public Skates

    • Skating is open to the public for nearly two hours on designated days, usually in the afternoon, at the center's practice rink. Use the public skate times to practice figure skating tricks and overall skating technique. Check the center's calender on their official website for public skate dates and times, though such dates are subject to change. Public skating is free to those with University of Massachusetts undergrad IDs, $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Skate rentals are $3.

    Puck/Stick Time

    • The center also opens its practice arena for young hockey enthusiasts to practice their sport. You must be at least 16 years old to participate and you must sign a waiver. Participants under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian present while they practice. Goalies can practice for free, though they are required to wear full equipment. Other players 16 or older must pay an $8 fee to use the rink.

    Concert Events

    • The center frequently hosts concerts as well as conferences, theater productions, commencement ceremonies and cultural events. Check the center's website for information on upcoming concerts and other events, such as the January 2011 NV Concepts Presents The First Annual Winter White Party, featuring a popular local DJ.

    Basketball & Hockey Games

    • Take in a University of Massachusetts women's or men's basketball game or a UMass hockey game. The center's main arena hosts a basketball court over an Olympic-sized hockey rink and features exciting college sports games the whole family can enjoy. Use the center's website for information about sporting event dates and times as well as for purchasing tickets. The University of Massachusetts faces other big-name colleges including Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's University, George Washington and Temple.
