Activities in the City of Denver

Set against the Rocky Mountains, Denver is nicknamed the "Mile High City" due to its elevation. When traveling to the city of Denver, there are many things to see and do. These include various arts and culture attractions, events, wineries, spas and sports attractions.
  1. Culture

    • There are many art and cultural events to attend in Denver. The city offers a variety of arts festivals and performances at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The complex is the second largest fine arts complex in the world and houses 10 venues. The city also has a diverse music scene, with different concerts at venues such as the Paramount Theatre and the Fillmore. There are also many museums throughout the city such as the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, the Kirkland Museum and Museo de las Americanas.

    Recreation

    • Denver has more than 850 miles of paved trails that lead to the nearby Rocky Mountains. There are many hiking excursions, mountain bike trails and wildlife attractions. Denver is also home to professional basketball, baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, rugby and hockey teams. There are also many ski resorts, such as Winter Park located 67 miles outside the Denver Metro area.

    Historical Attractions

    • History is important to the city and Denver offers many historical venues such as the Black American West Museum, Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave, the Buffalo Herd Nature Preserve and the Western Museum of Mining and Industry.

    Day Trips

    • Central City and Black Hawk are located 34 miles west of Denver and are two historic mining towns. While known for their casinos and gambling venues, the two cities are also recognized for their well-preserved Victorian architecture. Mount Evans is located 60 miles from Denver and has the highest paved auto road in North America. Another popular day trip is to Pikes Peak Country, which is located 60 miles outside of Denver in Manitou Springs. There are many attractions near the peak such as the Air Force Academy, the Broadmoor Resort, Garden of the Gods and the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, which are located in Colorado Springs.
