The city of Lompoc, California is nearby to the Vandenberg Air Force Base and is most recognized for their flower fields. The city was founded in 1888 and has now grown to a city that inhabits 46,000 people. While it is not a big city with tons of events, shows and culture, Lompoc does have its fair share of activities for tourists. There are plenty of things to do to guarantee an enjoyable stay in Lompoc.
  1. Annual Flower Festival

    • Lompoc hosts an annual flower festival every June. This festival has been in existence for more than 50 years. The festival includes a parade, food vendors, rides, games and live entertainment. The festival is held in Ryon Park which is at the intersecting streets of South 'O' South and West Ocean Avenue.

    La Purisima Mission

    • Travelers can enjoy the La Purisima Mission in Lompoc. It was founded in 1787 and contains hiking trails, wildlife and fountains. Tourists can take guided tours around the mission or shop the mission gift store. The trails span across 25 miles and guests can enjoy a picnic on the grounds. The mission offers a glimpse of life in the 1820s and hosts regular demonstrations of pottery making, candle making, weaving, livestock production and leatherwork.

    Historical Society

    • Travelers visiting Lompoc can visit the Lompoc Valley Historical Society. It was founded in 1964 operating in the historic Fabing-McKay-Spanne House. Four buildings, plus the historic home, make up the historical society. It is open on Monday and Thursday mornings as well as the fourth Sunday of the month.

    Mural Tour

    • Lompoc is known for its murals that are painted all over the town. Travelers can pick up a mural map at the Chamber of Commerce or the Lompoc Mural Society. There are 11 primary murals across the town that were painted by different artists. The oldest known mural is a floral flag that was painted by Bodgers Seeds Company in 1942. Visit the murals at your leisure or follow the map for directions.
