    • Located in Asheville, North Carolina, is ClimbMax Climbing center. This indoor/outdoor rock climbing facility opened in 1994 with the aspiration to make rock climbing accessible to everyone. Indoor instruction is provided for kids and teens, and special programs such as camps, birthday parties and school events are available. Your teen can climb on real rock and become part of a team with these rock climbing programs, whether she is a beginner or more advanced.

    Sliding Rock

    • No man-made water park required when you visit the Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina. This park covers over a million acres and provides ample opportunity to have fun with your active teens. The Sliding Rock is a 60-foot natural water slide right down well worn rock that empties out into a pool of water, approximately six feet deep. It is open from Memorial Day to mid-August, and there is a nominal fee to access the area. Changing facilities and restrooms are available during the season.

    Jockey's Ridge State Park

    • Located on the outer banks of North Carolina is Jockey's Ridge State Park. Its otherworldly terrain features the tallest natural sand dune in the east. Self guided hiking tours are available. For those who want to skip the sand, there is a 360-foot boardwalk you can access near the parking lot. Activities such as kite flying and hang gliding are available, in addition to many water sports such as windsurfing and swimming. Be aware of inclement weather and dangerous lightning. The park has a weather warning system to help alert you in the event that the weather takes a turn for the worse.
