Toddler Friendly Maine Vacations

A family vacation may seem like a lot of work to someone with a toddler. The key to enjoying your vacation is choosing a location that offers plenty of things for your busy toddler to see and do. Maine is a beautiful vacation spot, offering national parks, museums, beaches and farms. Choose a hotel or campground that is toddler friendly and get ready for a fun-filled vacation.
  1. York Beach

    • York Beach, Maine offers a variety activities for families with toddlers. York's Wild Kingdom, a zoo and amusement park, has a petting zoo, children's rides, and a place to picnic. York Beach has a beautiful coastline lined with two sandy beaches, Long Sands and Short Sands. They are both suitable for toddlers to build sandcastles and splash in the waves, and they are about one mile apart. Short Sands has a playground and grassy area as well. There is a boardwalk with shopping and dining options. Toddlers may enjoy a visit to the saltwater taffy store: Goldenrod Kisses. You can watch them pull the taffy and buy a bag to take home with you.

    Acadia

    • Acadia is the home to a national park where families can camp out, learn about nature and take hikes. The national park offers programs for kids to learn about animals and nature. There are plenty of hiking trails in Acadia where families can bring their stroller and hike with a toddler. The town of Bar Harbor is nearby as well, and there are beautiful views, and tide pools to explore with curious toddlers. If you're lucky, you may even find starfish.

    Sebego Lake and Lakes Region

    • Sebago is a perfect spot for families to vacation in the summer. The beautiful lake is nice for swimming, sunning and picnicking with toddlers. It is also located near several area attractions. The Maine Wildlife park is a nice place to visit with toddlers, and you may see over 30 different types of wildlife native to Maine. You can also visit Old Orchard Beach and Palace Playland, an amusement park on the beach.

    Portland

    • Portland is home to the Children's Museum of Maine. Toddlers can explore interactive exhibits, and have fun while learning. Your toddler may also enjoy a visit to the oldest lighthouse in Maine, Portland Headlight. Portland has its very own baseball team, the Portland Seadogs; it may be fun to catch a baseball game with your toddler.

    Northern Maine

    • Northern Maine is a rural area with many outdoor activities to entertain toddlers. North Maine woods is a great area to camp, hike and spot wildlife. Goldenrod Farm has over 300 animals and is open to visitors. Visitors can witness old style farming practices and learn how farms are run. Northern Maine Museum of Science has outdoor and indoor exhibits that feature natural science topics from wildlife to plants and minerals.
