Nashville, Illinois, is in Washington County, about 60 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri, and is known as one of the cleanest towns in the southern region of the state. Nashville may not be as famous as its Tennessee namesake, but the city offers plenty of attractions, such as a park, conservation area, museum and golf course.
  1. Nashville Memorial Park

    • According to the Nashville Chamber of Commerce website, Nashville Memorial Park has 37 acres of recreational venues, such as fishing ponds with stocked fish, four baseball diamonds, tennis courts, picnic areas, playgrounds and a remodeled pool with a diving area and wading pool. The Nashville Memorial Park swimming pool hosts swim meets as well as swimming lessons for residents and visitors.

    Washington County Conservation Area

    • The Washington County Conservation Area has 1,140 acres where visitors can go camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, boating and picnicking. Washington County Lake has 13 miles of shoreline. Tent and trailer spaces, as well as one furnished cabin rental, are available with reservations. Wildlife can be seen throughout the area, which includes a seven-mile-long marked trail, seven picnic areas, two boat launch ramps and more than 900 acres set aside for seasonal shotgun and bow-and-arrow hunting. Animals often seen in the conservation area include rabbit, quail, squirrel, deer and woodcock.

    Nashville Municipal Golf Course

    • Located adjacent to Nashville Memorial Park, the Nashville Municipal Golf Course provides a par-36 course with many tournaments hosted on the green. The course, which is open year-round, has a refurbished golf cart fleet, Zoysia grass, concrete cart paths and an automated irrigation network. According to the website Golf.com, the Nashville Municipal Golf course provides a challenging tree-lined course with water hazards, 200-, 150- and 100-yard markers and 11 to 20 sand bunkers. Rental clubs are available, and a putting green training area is provided for practice.

    Washington County Historical Society Museum

    • The Washington County Historical Society is in a three-story home that houses the society's memorabilia. It is open to the public on Sundays or on weekdays by appointment. A one-room schoolhouse and the Louisville and Nashville Train Depot can also be toured. The residence was constructed in 1871 and now holds hundreds of museum artifacts, which include antique wedding dresses worn by the women of Nashville, according to the Tourism Bureau of Southwestern Illinois.
