The King Observance Week is a series of historical events held in Atlanta during the third week of January. The week's events pay reverence to the courageous acts and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Held at the King Center in the historic Sweet Auburn district near downtown Atlanta, King Observance Week includes events like the annual commemorative service, MLK parades, and the annual awards dinner and reception. The King Celebration Concert, which highlights the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, is also one of the most popular events to take place throughout the week. Most events are open to the public.

The Nook's Hoedown Seafood Boil is an annual seafood boil, fund-raising gala and costume party in midtown Atlanta. The party takes place during on the last Saturday in January at the Nook Restaurant near Piedmont Park. Boiled seafood entrees such as oysters, sausage and clams are offered. There is also a costume contest, and winners are announced at the end of the night. The event is rather popular, because it takes place much earlier than when the boiling season begins in the spring.

The Atlanta Boat Show takes place during the third weekend of January each year at the Georgia World Congress Center. The Boat Show includes activities ranging from indoor play areas for the kids and rock-climbing for teenagers to exhibits both new and historic for adults. The show features more than 200 boat exhibits from fishing boats to luxurious yachts.
