Things for Children to Do in Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta, the largest city in Georgia and state capital, has a wide array of attractions that keep children in mind. Most of the tourist spots, such as the Atlanta Zoo and Georgia Aquarium, offer discounts for children's tickets, while the popular shopping centers, including Underground Atlanta, features retail stores that have kids' apparel and items. Some hotels in Atlanta, such as the Downtown Wyndham Garden, allow children to stay for free.
  1. Atlanta Braves Baseball

    • The Atlanta Braves baseball team plays all of its home games at Turner Field in downtown Atlanta. This stadium was used during the 1996 Summer Olympics as a track and field arena, but has since been modified to facilitate baseball. In between every inning of the game, numerous on-field activities occur to keep parents and their children preoccupied while waiting on the game to resume. Vendors at the game sell memorabilia, such as baseball hats and gloves, and children will enjoy watching the game while eating a hot dog.

    Georgia Aquarium

    • Established in 2005, the Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium and boasts more than 60 different exhibits throughout the complex. Some of the marine animals on display at the aquarium include lionfish, manta rays, whale shark, piranha and jellyfish. The aquarium offers discounted passes and tickets for children 12-years-old and under. Educational programs are also offered to children at the Georgia Aquarium, which includes classes and field trip tours. Children activities are available at the aquarium, such as Camp H20, which occurs in the summer and winter, as well as facilities for birthday parties.

    The World of Coca-Cola

    • Atlanta is the location of Coca-Cola's world headquarters and the World of Coca-Cola, a museum that has exhibits devoted to the history of this soft drink company. Tickets and passes for children 12 and under are offered at discounted prices. Toddlers two years and younger are allowed to enter for free. This museum offers opportunities for school field trips, which usually consists of a two-hour tour. The museum offers insulated lunches for children on field trips upon request.

    Six Flags Over Georgia

    • Six Flags Over Georgia is located in Austell, approximately 20 minutes' driving distance from Atlanta proper. This amusement park offers rides that are designated for children, including Dodge City Bumper Cars, Little Aviator and the Wile E. Coyote Canyon Blaster. Each child must be at least 3 feet to participate in these rides by themselves. Rides where parents can join their children include Shake, Rattle & Roll and Wheelie. Children 12 and under receive discounted ticket prices. Six Flags also offers live family-friendly entertainment, such as live music and dancing.
