Affordable Things for Teen Visitors to Do in Atlanta, Georgia

Teen visitors want to be seeing and doing. Atlanta has a variety of attractions, several of which are free. Budget-minded teenagers can select some paid activities and intersperse those with choices that are free. The climate lends itself to outdoor activities almost year round; include some of Atlanta's parks in your agenda.
  1. Piedmont Park

    • Go green---spend the day at Piedmont Park, a green oasis two miles northeast of Downtown. This popular park is easy to get to from MARTA (Atlanta's light rail system). Bring your own, or rent a bike or inline skates. A gathering spot since 1904, the park has oodles of facilities for activities such as tennis, swimming, fishing, grilling, picnicking, bird watching, volleyball, softball, soccer, walking, jogging, skating and biking. There is a dog park, too, so even Rover can come to play. Pack a picnic lunch and snacks.

    Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site

    • If you love history, you will want to spend a few hours at the MLK site, which includes his birth home, a church, an assembly hall, a fire station and a restored residential block where his home stands. King was a courageous Civil Rights leader and 1964 Nobel Peace Prize winner. Make the visitor center your first stop to get a map to guide you. You can rent a GPS Ranger multimedia device for a narrated tour. Admission and parking are free.

    Centennial Olympic Park and World of Coca Cola

    • A "must see" for some teens, the colossal World of Coca Cola sits on the edge of Centennial Park in Downtown Atlanta. You can combine a trip to the museum with a park visit. The park is a legacy from the 1996 Summer Olympics and features a fountain show orchestrated to music. The park offers free outdoor music concerts every Wednesday evening. At the Coca Cola museum, view the collection of 1,200 artifacts from around the world. A new exhibit features a 4-D movie and gallery spotlighting pop culture. You can taste 60 different soft drinks from around the world in the tasting room. Plan to spend 90 minutes to two hours touring the exhibits.

    • If you like current events or television news, visit the CNN network studios located at the other end of the Centennial Olympic Park. For a behind-the-scenes look at the televised news operation pick one of three guided tours. Look into Atlanta City Pass or Most Valuable Package for a discounted rate if you plan to go to several museums. City Pass lets you select six attractions for one price.
