What Types of Entertainment Are in Managua, Nicaragua?

More than a million people live in this metropolis on the southern coast of Lake Managua. In Nahuatl, an ancient Aztec language, Managua appropriately means "where there is an extension of water." Nicaragua's capital is a place of constant change. In the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in 1972 and years of political unrest, the city has stabilized and offers entertainment options for visitors.

    • On Wednesday nights, you can visit the Restaurant Mi Pueblo to take in the show Venga a Mi Pueblo, which means "come to my town," and enjoy some traditional foods while listening to performances from a variety of folkloric groups.

    Zona Hippos

    • In Zona Hippos you can find a wide variety of restaurants serving national and international cuisine. While strolling the area you're likely to see street presentations of Nicaraguan songs, popularly known as La Gigantona.

    • Zona Viva Galerias, located in the Mall Galeria Santo Domingo, offers tourists a modern touch, boasting the most fashionable restaurants in the city as well as the Moods Club, where you can dance.

    • Very close to Mall Galerias is Plaza Familiar, which has many restaurants and the Club Hipa Hipa, which for years has been a favorite for tourists and locals alike. Masaya Road is home to the Zona Cero and the Zona Rosa, with a variety of bars, restaurants and pools. Chamán Bar is the biggest nightclub in the country.
