Attractions Near Topsail Beach, North Carolina

Topsail Beach, North Carolina is one of the state's smallest towns with a population of just 581 in 2008, according to city-data.com. Other than the beach, there may be little to do in Topsail, but there are plenty of other attractions within an hour's drive. Out-of-town visitors and locals can head to Hampstead for dining and golf at two country clubs open to the public, and there are more attractions in Surf City and further south in Wilmington.

    • The Battleship North Carolina is located about an hour away in Wilmington, N.C. It is open every day, including holidays. A self-guided tour takes about two hours, and includes portions of nine decks where you can enter gun turrets, view the crew's quarters, inspect the bridge, engine room, sick bay and more. You can see one of the remaining Vought Kingfisher float planes, and take pictures of a Roll of Honor showing the names of the 10,000 North Carolinians who lost their lives fighting in World War II. The ship overlooks downtown Wilmington.

    Belle of Topsail

    • The Belle of Topsail is a 55-foot riverboat with a party theme. It's a replica of an 1880s turn-of-the century riverboat. It can hold up to 49 passengers as it cruises along the North Carolina Intracoastal waterway. Regular cruises are scheduled throughout the year, depending on the weather, and the boat is also available for private parties. The open air top decks allows terrific views of Topsail Island and surrounding areas. The boat is docked at the Beach House Marina in Surf City, about 15 minutes from Topsail Beach.

    Belvedere Golf And Country Club

    • Belvedere Golf & Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course and is open to the public. In 2010 the club completed a renovation of all the greens on the course and also introduced new golf carts. The course is relatively short, measuring 6,401 yards from the back tees and 4,992 from the front. There is also a middle tee, playing a distance of 6,021 yards. Belvedere has a course rating of 71.2 and a slope rating of 128. The course has a combination of six par-threes, six par-fours and six par-fives for a par of 72. Belvedere admits on its website that the the combination is unusual; most courses rarely have an even number of par threes, fours and fives. Belvedere is located in Hampstead, about a half hour from Topsail Beach. The course also has a restaurant serving breakfast and lunch daily. Dinner is served Wednesday through Saturday.

    Olde Point Golf And Country Club

    • Olde Point Country Club is located about 30 miles from Topsail Beach and offers an 18-hole golf course with native foliage and ponds and mature landscaping and trees. The par 72 course measures 6,913 yards from the back tees, and 5.133 from the front tees. It has a course rating of 73.3 and a slope of 137. There are four tees in all, making the course playable for golfers of all skill levels. Tee times can be booked online, and the course offers an all-grass practice area with special areas to work on chipping and other short-game shots. Lessons can be scheduled with a resident teaching pro. Frequent visitors can inquire about memberships. A restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner is open daily.
