Observe the Tasmanian devils. If needed, use your binoculars to compare the sizes of the adult Tasmanian devils. Adult males are larger in size than females. And the head and neck of older adult males may constitute 25 percent of its weight, according to Australia's Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment. This may also be something you can detect visually.
Notice the weight differences between the adults as males weigh more at 10 to 12 kilograms (approximately 22 to 26.5 pounds) than females at 7 to 8 kilograms (approximately 15.5 to 17.5 pounds), according to Australia's Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment.
Look for pouches as only female Tasmanian devils have them for carrying their young. And if by chance you are with a professional who is trained in handling these animals, you may be able to examine them physically. If so, the females will have four nipples in their pouch for feeding their young.
