Shop thrift stores, flea markets and craft stores for glass jars of varying heights. Find containers that are clear or only slightly tinted. Buy glass jars that have lids.
Pack sturdy resealable plastic bags on your next trip to a sandy shore. Scoop a handful or two of sand into the bags before you return home.
Line your workspace with old newspaper to catch any spilled sand. Insert a funnel into the opening of the jar and pour in the sand. Remove the funnel and secure the lid on the jar.
Attach labels to the jars. Write the destination and the date of your travels on a sturdy white key tag from a craft or office supply store and attach it with a bit of wire and a whimsical wine charm. Cut a section of any pliable wire about 6 inches long. Slip the tag and wine charm along the length of the wire, and then wrap it around the top of the jar. Twist the two ends together to secure, and clip away any excess wire.
Display the jars. As you accrue more souvenir sand jars, make your collection the center of your living room's attention. Display them on several bookshelves where they will grab the attention of your guests. Consider a halt to sand collecting if you begin to accrue more jars than you have space to display them.
