How to Find Bugs in the Bed

No one wants to think that his bed is home to blood-sucking insects, but the fact of the matter is that bedbugs are a growing problem in the U.S. According to CNN, pest control companies have experienced an 81% increase in bedbug-related calls since 2001. Bedbugs release saliva into your skin to numb the area, making it less likely that you will wake up while being bitten. Because of this, it is crucial that you know how to identify signs of bedbugs in any bed.

Instructions

    • 1

Notice the smell of the room. An almond smell can be a sign of bedbug infestation.

    • 2

Inspect the bed linens before getting into bed. Look for small bugs that are approximately 1/4 inch in length, roughly the size of a large freckle. They are clear in color before they feed, but they change to a reddish brown once they have eaten.

    • 3

Lift the sheets and check the edges of the bed for blood spots. Bedbugs tend to travel in groups, so you may see many small blood spots in one area of your bed.
