Enroll in a German class at your local college or community center. Look for a class that specifically caters to new speakers and focuses on rapid comprehension of the language. Many colleges and community centers offer online learning courses you can take for credit from the comfort of your home (see Resources).
Check out books from your local library on speaking German. Devote approximately 40 minutes per day to working with the language on your own to develop good, daily study habits and progress quickly. You can also purchase beginner German books that include worksheets and practice exercises.
Use free Internet resources, such as Live Mocha and E-Language school. Work through online lessons and courses and take the opportunity to practice with native speakers as you become more confident in your language skills.
Purchase audio CD German lessons if you more readily process information through listening. Incorporate audio lessons into your daily routine, such as during car rides or when cleaning the house.
Hire a German tutor if you're still not picking up the language as quickly as you would like. Tutoring, while expensive, provides personalized attention and will help you master German rapidly in a short period of time.
