How to Find a Scenic Drive From London to Scotland

These directions originate from Covent Garden. This used to be a fruit, flower and vegetable market from the sixteenth century until it was relocated south of the river in 1974. It is now an entertainment district, frequented by tourists. The Royal Opera House stands at one corner of the area. These directions are to Edinburgh which is 430 miles north of London. Edinburgh has been Scotland's capital city since 1437 and is the second most popular tourist destination in the United Kingdom, after London. There are numerous medieval and Georgian buildings to see. Roads with a prefix of A are good roads to take while roads with a prefix of B are smaller and less frequented.

Instructions

  Start from Covent Garden and drive north on the A40 and then the A401 into the City of London, London's historic core.

  Follow signs for the A10 and pass through Stoke Newington, Wood Green and Cheshunt.

  Take the A507 as far as Baldock where you drive onto the A1.

  Drive on the A1 and the A605, past Peterborough and Grantham, a university town in the county of Lincolnshire.

  Disregard signs to the A1(M), which is a motorway. Instead, take the A614 towards Goole, then the A1041 to Camblesforth.

  Follow the A63 and the A19 to York, the county town of Yorkshire, which based its prosperity on the chocolate industry.

  Continue on the A1231 from the River Wear bridge as far as Birtley, where you drive on the A1 again.

  Cross the Scottish border at Lamberton and continue on to Edinburgh.
