Royal Caribbean Packing Checklist

The packing list for your Royal Caribbean International cruise is based largely on your destination. The weather, the length of your cruise and the type of activities you have planned for your cruise vacation play a large part in dictating what goes in your luggage and what stays in your closet. While you can pack as much or as little as you'd like for your cruise, Royal Caribbean offers a checklist of things they think you'll need during your voyage.
  1. Formal Wear

    • Each Royal Caribbean cruise features at least one formal night. Cruises range from three nights to more than 15 nights, which means you'll have at least three formal nights. For this type of occasion you'll need gowns, cocktail dresses, a suit or a tuxedo. Pantsuits are permitted for women and men are required to wear a tie. As a space saver, women should consider taking formal wear that match the same evening bag, shoes and jewelry, and men can recycle suits, packing new shirt and ties to wear on different nights. Pack a wrap or shawl for cool evenings.

    Weather Appropriate Clothing

    • Pack for the weather at your intended destination. If your cruise takes you to Europe, consider the fact that it is not a tropical location and therefore the weather varies greatly though out the year. Alaskan cruises are very cold and Caribbean cruises always experience tropical weather. No matter what the weather you need a hat and sunscreen to protect your skin. Even in cold temperatures the sun can damage skin.

    Destination Appropriate Clothing

    • Pack for your destination. Packing for the Caribbean is easy; toss your bathing suits, cover ups, flip flops and sunscreen in a bag and be on your way. For the boat, you'll need resort casual wear, which includes sundresses, khakis, polo shirts, nice capri pants and comfortable shoes. You'll need warm clothes and layers if your destination takes you somewhere cooler, such as Europe during the fall or winter or Alaska. Pants, sweaters, cardigans, jackets and closed-toe shoes are always recommended. Accessories and extras you need at every destination include your personal hygiene products such as your makeup, glasses, contact lenses and things such as your camera, forms of payment and battery chargers for any electronics you bring.

    Activitity and Shore Excursion Clothing

    • On your Royal Caribbean ship you have your choice of activities, which include a fitness center, rock climbing walls and sports court. If you'd like to participate in any of these activities you'll need the proper attire. Also consider the activities you plan on participating during your shore excursions. Hiking, swimming, water sports and sightseeing are activities available in virtually every one of Royal Caribbean's destinations. Comfortable shoes are a must. If you're traveling through Europe and want to visit any museums, churches or other monuments you'll need to dress conservatively.
